August 21, 1946 - October 15, 2020
Sunshine JoVan-Powe, 74, born on August 21, 1946, skated through the pearly gates on October 15, 2020, asking, "Where is the chicken line?" She transitioned back to her Creator, peacefully in her room, at Continuing HealthCare Services, in Gahanna, Ohio. Traveling to her temporary resting stop, in an updated Chrysler van. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Powe; father, Henry Charles Martin; mother, Dorothy Mae Edwards McMahan; grandmother, Gertrude Hughes; brothers, John Lewis Martin and Slater Martin; dear close friend, Diane Patrice Boone-Nevins; and loving, special aunt, Helen Murdock. She leaves to keep her memory alive, sister, Pamela (Mitch "Backup") Mitchell; one and only daughter, Michel "Baby Daughter" Muhammad; grandchildren, Mecah "Frenchie" (John) Guice-Brazell, Monet "My Girl" (Abu) Moore-Said, and Aalim "Baby A" Muhammad; great grandchildren, Zion and Zhuri Brazell and Zakiya Nurein; and other family members and friends. After retiring from a long career with Ohio Bell, she used her gifts and talents, as she freely gave of her service to others. She volunteered for many hours, helping various organizations. She created "Sunshine's Help-U-Service", being a home healthcare aid to the elderly. While doing so, she met her husband, Robert "Coach", her angel on earth. They were both faithful members of The Vineyard of Columbus for many years and both loved to ballroom skate and bowl. She was a member of the "Red Hatter Society", and on Saturday and Sundays you could tell which teams she was rooting for, as she was an OSU Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns fanatic!! Chanting "O-H-I-O" and "Who let the dogs out..ruff, ruff"!! On any given day, you might hear, bellowing from her room, "Stomp", by Kirk Franklin, her favorite Gospel artist, with her hands moving side to side saying, "Hey….Hoooooooooooo"!! Sunshine will always be remembered by all who knew and loved her as a "ray of Sunshine" with her beautiful smile. She lived her life on her own terms, always having something witty to say, speaking whatever was on her heart and mind!!! Most importantly, she loved the Lord and she loved her family, especially those grands and great grands. "That's it and that's all"
