March 28, 1928 - April 17, 2021
Robert “Bob” L. Allison passed peacefully at home on Saturday, April 17, 2021. He was born on March 28, 1928 in Chester West Virginia to the late Otis and Stella Allison. He also joins his wife, Doris Jean Allison to whom he was married for 58 years; his sisters Maxine McCoy of Aliquippa, PA, Dorothy Gibbs of Chester W.V; and brother James Allison, Chester, W.V. Survived by daughters, Sue Allison Roberts, Kay Allison Resch (Kevin); and son, Richard A. Allison (Julie); 6 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A graduate of Chester High School, West Virginia, he went on to graduation from Urbana University, achieving a BA in Business. He proudly served, in the USAF during the Korean War and Viet Nam (1951 – 1971). Retired from General Electric (1972– 1992), and was a member of North Church of Christ, Columbus OH. Bob and Jean worked extremely hard to make sure their 3 children enjoyed every new place the Air Force sent them. Camping trips, museums, zoos, parks, seeing the sites of every new location and embracing their new home made each move an adventure. From Ohio to Texas, North Carolina, Florida, California, Germany and back to Ohio, every move brought the family (plus the two poodles) closer together. Bob Loved Life. He enjoyed working in the yard in Ohio and Florida, monthly breakfast meetings with GE retirees, reading, daily walks and Afghan Hounds. Bob and Jean loved their retirement gift to each other, an RV, and traveled the country from coast to coast. Bob continued to work through his “Bucket List” and always had a plan in mind for the “next one”. He was truly honored to be a part of the “Honor Flight” in October of 2016. An amazing trip to China to visit daughter Kay and Kevin helped him complete his “round the world” goal. Always a car racing fan, he loved talking about the rainy Daytona 500 race with son, Rick and the sweet trip to Key West. He was in awe of the Ohio Theatre and felt the Columbus Zoo was a true Ohio treasure. (He was flattered to have a piece of our family history hanging in the Polar Frontier Region of the Zoo.) Bob was fascinated with solar panels, hurricanes, alternative energy sources and was a master at “fixing things”. He was so proud to be a Florida snowbird for 10 years and even more happy to eventually call Florida his permanent home. We already miss your positive, generous, gentle spirit. A family Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date at Schoedinger North Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Bob can be made to the Honor Flight Columbus, PO Box12036, Columbus, OH 43212 ([email protected]); Afghan Hound Rescue of Central OH, AHRCO, 800 Confederate Way, Waycross, GA31503; Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, PO Box400, Powell, OH 43065, Memorial Donation Form - Columbus Zoo and Aquarium (https://give.columbuszoo.org/commemorative-gifts); North Church of Christ, Rev.
