January 26, 1927 - May 29, 2021
Mae Louise (Keiper) McCorkle, 94, passed on May 29, 2021 at Willow Brook Christian Village, Delaware, OH. Predeceased by parents, William J. and Caroline (Price) Keiper; sister, Mildred Kline; husband, William R. McCorkle, Jr. and son, William R McCorkle III. Mae was born at home in German Village, Columbus, Ohio on January 26, 1927. She was a graduate of North High School, Class of 1945. Mae met a Navy Captain after he returned from WWII named Bill McCorkle. They fell in love and after they were engaged, mailed a post card entry and were selected to be married on the CBS radio show Bride and Groom in Los Angeles, California. They took a train from Columbus to California and were married live on the air on February 1, 1949. They honeymooned at Howard Hughes' ranch in Palm Springs, California. After returning to Columbus, they owned a picnic grounds on Morse Road named Mac Park. Bill ran the parties and Mae did the catering in her home kitchen. They established McCorkle Inc., Realtors in 1950 and worked, with their desks touching, for the next 50 years. They had a fairy tale marriage for 54 years. Bill always said, "see, those Hollywood marriages do work out". Mae was a 50+ year member of Eastern Star's Triangle Chapter 592, inducted to the North High School Polar Bears Hall of Fame in 2015, member of The Ohio State University Pay Forward Society, past member of the Nationwide Children's Hospital Foundation Board, and Guideposts Board of Directors. So many were touched by her kind, Christian heart. Their thoughtful, philanthropic work through the Bill and Mae McCorkle Foundation provided The Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion at OSU, college scholarships, local parks and bike paths. It gave them great joy to support Central Ohio Diabetes Assn., Nationwide Children's Hospital, Charity Newsies, Toys for Tots, Genoa Township Firefighters, Mid Ohio Marine Foundation, Norman Vincent Peale Society and many more.
