Dorothy Jean Wurster Rout aged 94 passed away December 17, 2020. She was born October 2, 1926, in Chillicothe, OH, daughter of the late George Thomas Wurster and Virginia Ruth Cory Wurster. Dorothy is pre-deceased by her husband, Charles (Chuck) Rout, and her sister Mrs. Carolyn Brown of New Mexico. She is survived by her two daughters, Emily Jean (David) Scardena and Julia Ann (Terry) Smetzer, five grandchildren, Frank (Shalise)Scardena, Andrea (Jason) Henry, Elizabeth (Adam) Brown, John (Erin) Scardena and Alexander (Ashley) Smetzer along with 17 great-grandchildren. She and her family were very active members of Tabernacle Baptist Church. She was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and worked for Henn and Henn Jewelers during high school. She accepted a Curtiss-Wright Corporation College Scholarship and after graduating from Chillicothe High School in 1944, she entered the accelerated Aeronautical Engineering program at Purdue University. As a Curtiss-Wright Cadette, Dorothy was assigned specifically to the Columbus, OH, Hydraulics Engineering Department. Following World War II, Dorothy entered The Ohio State University's College of Education, graduating in 1949 with a History major, Math minor. During this time she was on the staff of Argo and Lehne Jewelers. Dorothy and Charles met as students on campus and were married on October 15, 1950. Along with her Aunt Mabel Wurster, she co-authored and published a book entitled, The Wurster Family of Chillicothe, of which a copy can be found in the Library of Congress. For a number of years she was a homemaker followed by 20 years employment as a Marketing Director for the publisher, Highlights for Children. Dorothy and Chuck travelled all over the United States and the world. She was known for her beautiful singing voice, was an accomplished seamstress, and entrepreneur. Partnering with her good friend, Bobby Richardson, they wrote a column, Make Time for Play, which appeared in a local newspaper featuring crafts and activities for children. She has been a member of Boulevard Presbyterian Church over 50 years serving as a teacher, president of the Womens 's Association, Deacon, and Moderator of Session (Elders Board). Dorothy was a member of many civic and community organizations including Purdue and Ohio State Alumni Associations, OSU Retirement Association, Nathaniel Massie Chapter D.A.R.-Chillicothe, OH, Ross County Historical Association, the Girl Scouts (leader), president of Grandview Heights Edison Elementary PTA, Tri-Village Lady Lions auxiliary, National Cory Society (vice president), Maennerchor, and Association of Naval Aviation. Private family burial handled by SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST at Grandview Cemetery, Chillicothe, OH.
