Clyde Franklin Thrash September 3, 1926 - June 26, 2021 At 94 years of age, Clyde F Thrash went home to be with the Lord at 8:33 am on Saturday, June 26th surrounded by his wife, Rose and three children(Clay H. Thrash of Columbus, Sharon Thrash Miller of Columbus and Linda(Dan) Thrash DeMartinis of Florida). Clyde is preceeded in death by his beloved daughter, Karen. Clyde Franklin Thrash wonderful journey in life began on September 3, 1926, born to his amazing parents Clayton and Marie Thrash. Clyde was the oldest of six children(Clyde, Jack, Betty, Virginia, Martha and Butch). He would spend his youth growing up in the country side of Flushing, Ohio, a small village in Belmont County just outside of St. Clairsville, Ohio. On June 18th, 1949 Clyde married the love of his life Rose Cecelia Thrash (Maiden name Brennan). He was 23 years old and she just 19. Young and deeply in love they set off together and started to lay their roots in Columbus, Ohio. In 1950 they gave birth to their first child Clay. Soon to follow were three beautiful daughters, Sharon, Linda and Karen. He was the best father a child could ever desire! Clyde was a amazingly skilled handy man and could fix anything. He was always willing to teach others these skills throughout his life. Actually he was a teacher of life to all who came in contact with him. Rather then give a man a fish to only feed him for a day he would teach the man to fish, so he could be filled for a lifetime. Clyde's skills went to great use working at Ohio Bell Telephone Company. There he served as Union President of Local #4320 Columbus. An advocate before his time, Clyde always desired to be a voice for the blue collar workers and was willing to stand up for the downtrodden. He was a member of the Pioneers and retired from Ohio Bell on August 31,1982. Clyde was also a very gifted story teller. When he spoke with his barotone voice all the people would listen attentively. His white hair showed his wisdom throughout the years and his calloused swollen hands showed the sacrifices and hard work he willfully endured to prosper his family. Clyde loved fishing and would spend every summer on The Great Lakes. Specifically he would spend the majority of his time on Middle Bass Island were his family cottage still stands today. In the winter months Clyde and Rose became snowbirds. They would pack up and head down to Isles of Capre in Southwest Florida. Everywhere Clyde went he would be humming or wisseling a tune. He loved to sing, write songs and play his juice harp. He even wrote and recorded a song for Rose at their 50th wedding anniversary, titled, "Rosie thank you for marrying me". It is surely a hit! Clyde simply loved people and truly adored his family, especially his Rosie. This is the man Clyde was a devoted family man. He would often say, "I've had a great life... No Regrets!", while everyday waking up to his beautiful Rosie creating their legacy together. And what a legacy it is with four children, six grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Not to mention the 72 precious and devoted years of marriage to Rose. While we will miss Clyde we shall always remember his ornery grin with crowsfeet wrinkles near his eyes. We will still see him in our minds smoking his stogies and drinking his happy hour bourbon. What we can do is raise a toast to Clyde for a job well done. What he has left behind in the hearts, minds and souls of many will be shared and taught for generations to come. In lieu of flowers please donate to American Lung Association 7720 Rivers Edge Dr Ste 126, Columbus, OH 43235. His family will be receiving friends on July 2, 2021 from 1-3pm at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio with a service to follow immediately after to celebrate Clyde's life.
