Chesterfield Hardy Jr. was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 17, 1943, he passed at the age of 78 on May 29, 2021.Chester grew up in Toledo and graduated from Libbey High school, he joined the Service in 1964. After completing Active Duty and returning home where he met his future wife, he came to Columbus in 1972, using his Veteran's benefits to attend the Columbus College of Art and Design, he retired from employment at DSCC as a Technical Data Specialist Drafter. Chester was very proud of the 35 years of combined Active and Reserve Duty he served in the United States Air Force and eagerly shared the value of his Military experience. Chester was blessed with the gift of a friendly smile, a sense of humor, easy conversation and never meeting a stranger. He had a kind heart and enjoyed helping others: Christ the King's Appalachian project for people in Sothern Ohio, Saint Alban's Episcopal Church's program to help repair hurricane Katrina properties in New Orleans, being a very helpful employee at Lowe's or just not passing by a person in need. He loved God, his family, friends, animals, and nature. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, flea markets, thrift stores, music, good food, movies, and making others laugh. He was a member Christ the King Catholic Church, Saint Dominic's Gospel Choir, the Downtown Serra Club and Friends of the Josephinum. Chester is preceded in death by his parents Chesterfield and Iona Hardy, sister Gloria Johnston (Wyatt) and son Chesterfield Hardy III "Chet". He is survived by his wife Virginia of 48 years, daughters Teasha and Yvette, brothers Edward and Sylvester Hardy, nephews Jan Van Johnston (Joyce) and Edward Hardy Jr., nieces Eliagene Johnston and Sherice Hardy. Lorenzo (Marilyn) Todd, Ronald (Donna)Todd, Jerome (Carina-deceased) Todd, other relatives, and Best Friend Larry Tipton. Friends are welcome 9-10:15, Funeral Mass begins at 10:30 on Friday June 4th at Christ the King Catholic Church, 2777 East Livingston Ave. in Columbus followed by interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5600 E. Broad St.
