Charles “Chuck” H. Stockman, age 98, of Dublin, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Kobacker House surrounded by his wife Mary and daughter Judith on February 21, 2021. Chuck was born on September 5, 1922 in Oak Park, Illinois to the late Henry Clay and Beatrice (Schey) Stockman. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, George, who was killed in action during WWII, his two sons Alan and David, and daughter-in-law Sandy. A brilliant mind, accomplished scientist, skilled athlete, devoted husband/father/grandfather/great grandfather describes Charles H. Stockman. He is a WWII veteran that served in Europe and in the Pacific as a chief operations sergeant and a technical sergeant in Co. B of the 3186th Signal Service Battalion. He attended Purdue University under the GI bill and earned a Bachelor of Science degree and PHD in chemical engineering. He began his career at B.F. Goodrich as a research engineer advancing to section leader/manager of research operations, and technology director for the aerospace and defense products division. Chuck was the Vice President and the general manager of Goodrich-High Voltage Astronautics, Inc. A patentee in his field, he was the first person to vulcanize tires with nuclear energy, and notably, helped develop a particle beam weapon. Chuck served on many research and development committees and was chairman of the technology planning subcommittee for the pentagon. Chuck’s passions included table-tennis, writing, tennis, traveling, and most notably skiing, where he brought the whole family together year after year at their condominium in Copper Mountain, Colorado. Charles is survived by his wife of 39yrs, Mary (Kable) Stockman; daughter Judith Hirshman, MD; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Due to COVID-19, the family will not hold any formal service at this time. A memorial service with military honors will be observed at a future date when Chuck’s urn will be placed at Greenlawn Cemetery. SCHOEDINGER DUBLIN, 5980 Perimeter Drive, is honored to assist the family with arrangements. There will be a Celebration of Life at SCHOEDINGER DUBLIN, 5980 Perimeter Drive Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 3PM, with visitation and light reception one hour prior beginning at 2PM.
